The Mazda CX-9 is the largest Mazda SUV. This is a three-row SUV that can seat up to six or seven depending on the trim level chosen. For the 2020 model year, the CX-9 has received many upgrades and new standard features.
One of the most significant changes for the 2020 CX-9 is in the area of safety features. The Sport trim will now have the Mazda i-Activesense suite of safety features as standard operating equipment. This suite of features includes lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control.
On the Grand Touring and Signature trim levels, the CX-9 will now be equipped with a hands-free liftgate. To activate the liftgate, the user kicks under the rear bumper.
One of the most important new features for the 2020 Mazda CX-9 is the improved all-wheel drive. For 2020, a traction control feature has been added. The all-wheel-drive system monitors for wheel slip. If there is slipping detected, the brakes are applied to the slipping wheel, and power is redirected to the wheels getting the superior traction.
Four trim levels are available for the CX-9, with the Sport trim being the base trim. This level still has an abundance of features including heated front seats and a power-adjustable driver's seat. The Touring trim comes with a 9-inch touchscreen, and there are USB ports in the rear of the vehicle.
With the Grand Touring trim, 20-inch wheels are available as are captain's chairs for the second row of seats. The Signature trim is the top-of-the-line trim on the 2020 CX-9. All-wheel drive is standard at this trim level, as is the Bose Audio System that includes 12 speakers.
One engine is standard over all four of the CX-9 trim levels. This is a 2.5-liter turbo inline-four that provides up to 250 horsepower. The engine torque has been increased to 320 ft-lbs for this model year. All-wheel-drive models of the 2020 CX-9 average 26 mpg in highway driving. Multiple safety features are standard on the CX-9. One of these is smart city brake support. When traveling at lower speeds, sensors are watching for a potential collision. If danger is suspected, the brakes will power up and come on automatically if needed to prevent an accident.
The 2020 Mazda CX-9 also offers hill launch assist. With this feature, drivers will have help preventing rollback on inclines. This system holds the CX-9 in place while the driver moves his or her foot from the brake to the gas pedal.
Other safety features found on the CX-9 include a rearview camera and blind-spot assist. Front and side airbags protect all of the occupants.
The 2020 Mazda CX-9 has much to recommend it. Find out more about this SUV at Joe Myers Mazda at 16500 Northwest Freeway in Houston, TX.
