What's New for the 2018 Mazda 6?

The new 2018 Mazda 6 does not compromise when it comes to elegance as it sets out to become the best premium sedan in history. The new signature trims carry the mark of fine craftsmanship. The new Turbocharged SKYACTIVE engine is the most responsive yet. The chassis was updated to include a rigidly mounted steering rack for improved response and feel. Rear wheel wells received thicker sheet-metal and thicker suspension trailing link mounts to improve the stiffness of the chassis.

Some modifications were made to the exterior design, but it still keeps its sleek streamlined feel. The interior is all new with a new luxurious Signature trim level. This trim level features Nappa leather seats, a Sen wood dash, and suede lined door cards for a high-end feel. They have also added the option of the 360 degree view monitor, a configurable 7-inch TFT instrument cluster with heads up display, an 8 inch Mazda Connect infotainment system, radar cruise control, and a windshield wiper deicer. These features give you more reasons to want to check out the new Mazda6.

New Features

From its genuine wood accents to its Napa leather seats, this flagship vehicle is a celebration of the driving experience. Mazda changed almost everything but the steering wheel. The maker says that the color of the leather seats was inspired by aged wood in Japanese temples and traditional drums. The seats have been upgraded to an S-shape that improves spinal alignment and driving comfort. The Mazda Connect infotainment system now features an 8-inch display with improved color rendering. A 7-inch information display results in an easy to read instrument cluster. Mazda technology is not overdone but emphasizes simplicity and effectiveness.

Engine and Transmission Specs

2018 Mazda6 ExteriorThe responsiveness of the new Mazda6 is like driving a sports car, rather than a sedan. The Mazda 6 received a major upgrade in power. Its new SKYACTIVE-G 2.5T engine delivers an impressive 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque when running on high octane fuel. On regular fuel it drops to 227 HP.

This engine uses new technology that provides the fuel economy of a diesel and the performance of a gasoline engine. It uses Mazda's own version of homogeneous charge compression ignition. A regular engine uses a spark plug to ignite the mixture of fuel and air. In the SKYACTIVE engine, the air is compressed in the cylinder then the fuel is added, causing it to spontaneously ignite. This system burns less fuel and burns it more quickly and completely.

The Turbo features a 6-speed automatic transmission. A manual transmission is available, but you will have to forgo the Turbo engine if you want this option.

2018 Mazda6 SafetyWhen it comes to safety, Mazda has added several enhancements to their driver aid technology. They have added a 360 degree view camera system, a full-speed radar cruise control system that can now operate when the traffic is stop and go. The head up display means you do not have to take your eyes off the road.

According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration(NHTSA), the Mazda 6 received an overall five-star safety rating. The front driver side received a five-star rating and the front passenger side received a four-star rating in a 35 mile-per-hour crash test. Electronic stability control, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, crash imminent braking, and dynamic brake support add to its safety factors.

Come Joe Myers Mazda and test drive the new Mazda6. It will be sure to ignite your passion for the open road.
