What's New for the 2018 MX-5 Miata?

The Mazda MX-5 Miata originally hit the market in 1989 as a two-seat roadster designed to provide maximum road performance with the highest level of technology available. Since that year, the MX-5 has gone through four generations and has upgraded every year to keep the original promise to keep up with technology advances. In 2018, the MX-5 advanced technology in its base trim and across its cadre of trims with standard improvements in audio performance by including the Mazda Connect Infotainment system with a seven-inch touchscreen and an HD radio and Bluetooth connectivity. Keyless entry with push-button start is now a standard feature in the MX-5. Other features that saw improvement are the LED headlights and taillights, a leather-wrapped gear shift, upgraded cloth seats. Aesthetically the MX-5 saw several improvements in 2018. Foremost is the Dark Cherry-red soft-top and new body color possibilities including Eternal Blue Mica, Snowflake White Pearl Mica, Soul Red Crystal, and Machine Gray Metallic.

The Club and Grand Touring offer a solid retractable roof as an option to the soft-top for drivers that live in colder parts of the world. The Grand Touring trim offers the exclusive Auburn-colored Nappa leather seating. All of the trims come equipped with advanced protection as standard features.

The MS-5 also can stop as quickly as it can get up and go with a quick-stop from 70 mph to zero in 159 feet.

MX-5 Miata Safety

2017 MX-5 MiataThe 2018 Mazda MX-5 Miata includes a comprehensive safety package. Seatbelt pretensioners sense sudden movement of occupants and lock to hold the occupants in place before airbag activation. An advanced anti-lock brake system senses tire movement and relieves brake pressure on individual wheels when the system senses the tires have stopped moving, thus avoiding brake-initiated collisions. The vehicle comes with daytime running lights as an added warning to other drivers. A center high-mounted stop light alerts following drivers that the MX-5 has come to a complete stop. Airbags include a front impact airbag for both the driver and the passenger when sensors indicate both seats are occupied, driver side-impact airbags and passenger side-impact airbags. Added head protection is included in seat construction, and side-impact bars are added to door and pillar construction. The security system includes an ignition disable that does not allow the engine to start without the proper computer chipped key. The Mazda MX-5 Miata is an extremely responsive vehicle. Often, the use of power to get out of trouble is just as important as the ability to stop.
