Specs at a Glance
The CX-5 has historically been a leader in its class. While the CX-5 has many great attributes, it has even more to offer in 2026. For 2026, the CX-5 gets some notable updates, including a refreshed design inside and out, updated technology, and more space in the cabin and cargo area. The 2026 CX-5 will have an updated front grille design, sleek wrap-around taillights, and a more upscale cabin. The lineup will remain the same, with multiple options available depending on your style preferences and budget. Starting off the lineup is the base model called the S, which is nicely equipped. Those wanting more luxury features should consider the Preferred trim, which is a mid-level trim that is upscale and stylish.
Performance
Both the 2026 CX-5 S and Preferred trims will use the same engine. They will be powered by a 2.5L four-cylinder engine that produces up to 187 horsepower and gets up to 185 pound-feet of torque. The Mazda trims both have an automatic transmission with six speeds, and they will both be equipped with all-wheel drive. You can choose to get a powertrain package with the S that offers several different driving modes, including one that enhances performance and another that offers a smooth and relaxed ride quality.
Appearance
On the outside, the 2026 Mazda CX-5 S has standard LED headlights with an automatic on/off function. This trim also has daytime running lights and high beam control. Automatic wipers are standard, and the side mirrors have integrated LED turn signals. Dual exhausts and a rear roof spoiler are standard. The Preferred has automatic LED headlights with an auto-leveling feature. This trim level adds a power liftgate and comes with rear privacy glass. Both trims have all-season tires and 17-inch wheels.
Features
The S and Preferred trims both have 12V power outlets, a push-button ignition, and a keyless entry system. The Preferred has dual-zone climate control and a power moonroof. The S trim has cloth seats, while the Preferred trim upgrades to leather upholstery. A leather steering wheel is standard, along with a leather-wrapped gear selector. The S and Preferred have a 10.25-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth. The S has two USB-C ports, and the Preferred adds two USB-A charging ports in the second row. Safety aids include blind-spot warning, lane departure mitigation, and forward collision warning.
