2023 Mazda CX-5 vs 2023 Mazda CX-9

Mazda's KODO design philosophy is at the heart of the 2023 Mazda CX-5 design. The philosophy is simple. People want crossovers like the CX-5 that celebrate life's beauty. Mazda designed their CX-9 - a three-row SUV - with "connection" in mind. It's about getting out there and enjoying diverse energies while surrounded by the people and things you love. Our dealership recommends getting to know how these two differ to find the one that speaks your language.

Performance

A 2023 Mazda CX-5 produces 187 horsepower and maxes out at 227 horsepower. The CX-9 has a 227 horsepower engine across its entire trim lineup, so that's standard power for the CX-9. Both drive smoothly thanks to a 6-speed automatic transmission and available all-wheel drive. Many trims are available for both of these models, and there will be slight or great differences in performance features depending on the trim you choose. Be sure to rely on our staff to help you have a complete overview of available trims and performance features.

Appearance

The CX-5 is a CUV (crossover) built on the same platform that makes passenger cars enjoyable for families. You still get that extra size with its utility. The CX-9 is a straight SUV and is a three-row option with a longer body and roof-line. Each gets the personal Mazda touch and polish thanks to LED headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and heated side mirrors. The grille on these two models also differs in size and design.

Features

A CX-9 starts out with standard three-zone automatic climate control. You'll find automated climate control on the CX-5, but you'll have to go up a few trims to get it standard. The CX-5 starts out with cloth seating and room for five people, and the CX-9 gets standard leather-trimmed seating on its base model. Its fully loaded Signature trim showcases Nappa leather-trimmed seats in both the first and second rows, and there's heating and ventilation to go along with quilting and piping accents in those rows. A fully loaded CX-5 comes with Catura Brown Nappa leather-trimmed seats. Both are extremely classy and will appeal this year to any CUV or SUV buyer.
