Specs at a Glance

Designed to carry up to seven passengers, the 2021 Mazda CX-9 is a perfect match for drivers with a big family. You'll love this three-row crossover's lively performance, upscale styling, and exceptional everyday comfort. Let's find out how the CX-9 Sport compares to the CX-9 Signature.

Performance

Both of these trims come equipped with the same powertrain. A Skyactiv®-G 2.5-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder provides the necessary muscle. It's rated to crank out up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission makes sure the power is effectively transferred to the wheels. When carrying a full load of passengers and cargo, you'll appreciate the CX-9's strong punch. While front-wheel drive comes standard, and an i-Activ AWD® system with Off-Road Traction Assist is optional.

Appearance

Many people consider the CX-9's upscale styling to be one of their favorite qualities. It looks sleek and elegant. The CX-9 Sport is not your typical entry-level model. LED headlights and LED combination taillights come standard. Dual exhaust outlets add to the SUV's powerful appearance. While the Sport trim features 18-inch alloy wheels, larger 20-inch alloy wheels give the Signature trim an incredibly aggressive stance. An exclusive grille finish and satin chrome roof rails further distinguish the CX-9 Signature.

Features

Even the CX-9 Sport proves to be a relaxing family hauler. Incredible creature comforts, such as heated front seats and tri-zone automatic climate control, come standard; for 2021, a new infotainment system arrives. It features a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration. Standard safety technologies include Smart Brake Support with Collision Warning, Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go, and Lane-Keep Assist.

Expect the CX-9 Signature to offer an especially luxurious ride. New quilted leather upholstery and genuine wood interior trim give its cabin an extremely plush feel. Meanwhile, ventilated front seats and heated second-row captain's chairs take comfort to the next stage. Technology includes a 12-speaker Bose Centerpoint surround-sound system, an Active Driving Display with Traffic Sign Recognition, and a 360º View Monitor camera system. A few additional safety features also come equipped on the CX-9 Signature, including Driver Attention Alert and Smart City Brake Support - Reverse.
