Summer Maintenance
Blazing Houston summers can be hard on your car, so keep up with these Mazda maintenance tasks before the weather really begins to heat up. When you’re done, visit us at Joe Myers Mazda and have our team perform a complete tune-up today.

Check Your Tire Pressure

Air contracts at low temperatures and expands at high temperatures. That means that, as the seasons change and the weather starts to warm up, your tires that may have been perfectly pressurized for winter and spring may be overinflated during summer. Test your air pressure and make sure it’s within the recommended range in your owner’s manual, especially if you have any road trips planned.

Test Your Cooling Systems

Summer makes it hard to keep your car cool, both under the hood and in the cabin. Turn on your A/C and pay attention to the temperature of the air, how quickly it cools down, and any unusual smells or sounds you notice while it’s running. You should also open the hood and check the coolant level against the indicator lines on its reservoir; if it’s low, top it up.

Wash Your Car

Getting your car washed isn’t just about aesthetics — it’s an important protection for your exterior. Salt, dirt, and other debris are kicked up by winter driving and stick to your paint job, and if they’re not washed off, these contaminants begin to eat away at the external coat of paint and cause unsightly rusty spots. If you’re not using an automatic car wash, make sure to clean the undercarriage, too.
