There are some things worse than rattling, clicking, squealing, and other strange sounds coming from your vehicle, but not too many. When you hear a strange sound, you want to get it figured out as soon as possible. These are some of the top sounds that you should be listening to to get your vehicle looked at by a qualified mechanic as soon as possible to avoid further damage.
Squeaky Brakes
If you hear a squealing sound whenever you put your foot on the brake pedal, you probably need to replace the brake pads and rotors. Usually, you either have to replace the front brake pads and rotors or the back set of brake pads and rotors. When you hear squeaking, the brake pad has warned too thin, causing screeching sounds from the caliper hitting the rotor. If you don't get this fixed, the caliper will eventually wear through the rotor, causing damage to other parts of the brake system. If you hear a grinding noise, you need to get your vehicle in right away to avoid further damage.
Engine Rattling
There are a few reasons that you might hear a rattling sound coming from your engine. One of the most common reasons is due to premature ignition in the engine. One of the reasons that you might have premature ignition of the fuel is that the engine is overheating. Other common reasons are improper ignition timing and improper fuel octane. If you go too long without getting this fixed, you might damage your pistons, rods, or valves.
Engine Clicking
If you hear a clicking sound coming from your engine, you might have low oil. It's a simple enough fix if you get it done early, but leaving it unaddressed for too long can severely harm your engine. If you want to check your engine oil levels, take it into a technician. Otherwise, you can also pop the hood, pull out the dipstick, check the levels and replenish the oil if necessary.
Knocking Under the Hood
If you hear a knocking sound coming from underneath the hood, you should have a technician look at it immediately to avoid further damage. A knocking sound from underneath the hood could indicate problems with one of the major components, such as the valves, pistons, or connecting rods.
Engine Squealing
There are two reasons that your engine might be squealing. One of the most common causes is a worn accessory belt, such as the kind you would find on the steering pump, compressor to the air conditioner, or the alternator. Another possibility is a problem with the serpentine belt
