What's New for the 2019 Mazda CX-5?

New with the 2019 Mazda CX-5 is an available 2.5T SKYACTIV Dynamic Pressure Turbo 4-cylinder engine. A new Signature trim level, package upgrades, and a diesel engine option are also new this year. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and cooled front seats are a few of the smaller comforts added to the CX-5 this year. Annual upgrades to safety features, comfort, and convenience are becoming regular for Mazda.

Great Trims to Choose From

The Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trims are joined this year by the Signature trim. The Signature will include upgrades to the Grand Touring making it the top of the line for CX-5. Highlights of the Sport trim include MAZDA CONNECT Infotainment System with voice command and a 7-inch touch display. Bluetooth capability, HD radio, 12-volt power outlets, and USB ports enhance the Sport's convenience. The Touring trim adds rain-sensing windshield wipers, heated front seats, Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keep Assist, and Smart Brake Support. The Grand Touring includes a power moonroof, heated side mirrors, Power Rear Liftgate, and leather-trimmed seating. It has LED daytime running lights, LED fog lights, and LED combination taillights. The new Signature trim is expected to offer all the features of the Grand Touring trim. In addition, the signature will offer the turbo-powered and diesel engines, as well as upgraded alloy wheels and interior improvements.

What's Under the Hood?

The Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring all come with standard SKYACTIV G2.5L DOHC 16-valve 4-cylinder engine with cylinder deactivation. This yields 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. The same turbocharged engine currently available on the Mazda 6 and Mazda CX-9 is expected to be available with the Signature trim line. This affords 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque giving the lightweight CX-5 a power boost.

Modern Safety Technology

Safety is the utmost priority at Mazda and it shows with innovative safety features available on the 2019 Mazda CX-5. I-ACTIVSENSE uses radars and cameras around the vehicle to monitor conditions. Video and audio alerts let the driver know of possible problems. Radar Cruise Control will maintain speed or distance from the car ahead. It can automatically slow down or even stop if the car ahead does so. Rear Cross Traffic Alert notifies the driver if anything passes behind the car while reversing. Smart brake support assists drivers by activating the brakes in the event a collision is imminent. Adaptive front lighting allows drivers to better see around corners. High beam control automatically adjusts the intensity of the headlights when needed. Lane Departure Warning alerts the driver when veering out of their lane, and Lane-Keep Assist gently guides the steering wheel back into the proper lane.
